What Comes Next
Over a month ago, we presented on the project to 50 Gustavus community members. During the Q&A we got many iterations of the What are you doing next? question. We chuckled and gave awkward non answers and moved on. On the car ride home this question circulated. And just like the birth of this project, our next idea was born from spontaneous conversation. Customs and Cow Milk
Before starting the project, Ari and I schemed about a trip to Whitehorse. As nordic skiers, leaving slushy Southeast Alaska for the Yukon’s world class ski trails sounded pretty dreamy. My parents, also hard-core ski nuts, provided the car and housing. We just had to figure out how to get two weeks of local food to Canada. Harvesting Backwards
We thinned our carrots in the last sunny stretch of August. Hank came out to the garden, wiped muck off a carrot with his sweatshirt and took a bite. That’s hard to beat! You guys been munching on these all day? He crunched. I haven’t even tried one yet , Kaia laughed. What do you mean you haven’t tried one? Hank pulled another and wiped off the dirt. Here, eat it.
